Washington Treaty

Definition:
China was among the first countries to sign this treaty, but the United States and Japan did not sign it due to disagreements with compulsory licences, the treatment of innocent infringement, and the protection of designs when they are incorporated in industrial products.

Change Of Name

Definition:
Owners of trademark applications and registrations change their names, even though the actual ownership of the application or registration has not been transferred.

Trademark Registration

Definition:
Involves the establishment of rights in a mark based on legitimate use of the mark.

Ordinary Skill in the Art

Definition:
That level of technical knowledge, experience, and expertise possessed by the run-of-the-mill or ordinary engineer, scientist, or designer in the technology that is relevant to the invention.

Dilution

Definition:
A type of infringement of a trademark in which the defendant's use, while not causing likelihood of confusion, tarnishes the image or blurs the distinctiveness of the owner's mark.
